Soul Train Awards 2010 Nomination List: Alicia Keys And Usher Leading

he 2010 Soul Train Awards nomination list was revealed on Monday. Alicia Keys and Usher both received four nominations. The pair was followed by Drake with three nominations.

Monica, Nicki Minaj, Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu and Sade all got double nods. Ron Isley and Anita Baker are set to receive the legend awards.

Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson will be the hosts for the second time in a row.

The performers scheduled to take the stage during the November 28 ceremony are: R. Kelly, Ne-Yo, Cee-lo, Keyshia Cole, Rick Ross, Erykah Badu, Eric Benet, Chrisette Michele, Lalah Hathaway, Faith Evans, Janelle Monae, Gyptian, Freddie Jackson, Jeffrey Osborne, Tamia, and Tank.

Kelly is set to open the show with what is presented as a dynamite performance.

The Soul Train Awards will be broadcast at 9 p.m. ET/PT on BET and Centric.

Solange Knowles Slams Katy Perry California Gurls – Solange Knowles has taken issue with the Katy Perry video for “California Gurls,” which she considers to be “kiddie porn,” not in the sense that it features kids, but in that it is a song that is aimed at a younger population.

Her five year old son Julez also enjoys the song, and reportedly snuck away so that he would be able to see the video, which features the singer lying nude on a cotton candy mountain, only covering her breasts with cakes. The clip has not been banned yet, like other videos have in recent memory.

She also addressed the situation on her Twitter account, where she blamed Perry for marketing her sexual image to kids with bright colors and candy.

This will only add to the fact that Perry had her segments on “Sesame Street” removed after some parents complained about the dress that she wore, saying it was too revealing.

It will be interesting to see if Katy Perry replies to Solange Knowles. Perry had previously made fun of the fact that she was not allowed on Sesame Street when she appeared on Saturday Night Live wearing a low-cut Elmo shirt that exposed a large amount of cleavage.

The beat is smooth yet alive and her vocals are very impressive on the track — to be honest the former Destiny Child member never sounded so good. “Forever Is Just A Minute Away” which talks about the end of a relationship will have you bobbing your head.

Kelly Rowland’s “Forever And A Day” single is currently #49 on the U.K. charts and it is set to be featured on Miss Kelly’s yet untitled CD that will be out in Europe on November 29th.

As for when it will be released in America — your guess is as good as mine.

The song was pretty good to start with so Trey’s unmanly voice does not not bring anything new to the sweet ballad. Too bad the original remix which featured Jamie Foxx will never saw daylight.

The Polow Da Don produced track is featured on her latest effort called “Still Standing” which did pretty well on the charts (and has sold nearly 474,000 copies to date).

“Here I Am (Remix)” which is the third single off the CD will hit Urban radios on November 8th.

Prince Tour Dates 2010? Welcome 2 America Tour Dates Coming Soon – Prince aka the artist formerly known as the Prince has announced earlier today that he will be going on what he calls ‘Welcome 2 America’ with an army of artists starting in December. The pop icon who has a long list of hits that he will be able to play while he is on tour, held a press conference at Harlem’s Apollo Theater to make the announcement.

He was brief in his address to the media, and did not provide many details about his upcoming tour such as dates and itinerary.

The singer said that his tour will provide “multiple nights of entertainment.” He didn’t announce the start date or reveal any juicy information about what songs he would be playing, but did say that he is setting out to create the best tour of his career.

He named a number of participants who would be joining him on stage including Janelle Monae, jazz singer Cassandra Wilson, R&B group Mint Condition, Lelah Hathaway, Sheila E, Esperanza Spalding and James Brown’s legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker.

He also advised those that were coming to “bring foot spray, because it’s going to be funky.” Prince premiered his new song, “Rich Friends” over the Apollo sound system. In the past, Prince has denounced using the Internet to spread his music, instead looking for more organic, grassroots campaigns to spread his music.

“If you’ve been to one of my shows, then you know what time it is,” Prince told the crowd, according to a statement. “You need to come early and come often because every time we play it’s always something new. I got a lot of hits. Bring friends, bring children, and bring foot spray because it’s gonna be funky.”

In the “Sometimes I Cry” video the highly emotional Eric Benet can not hold back his tears as he recalls the moments he shared with an old lover.

Rapper Lil Wayne who is currently in jail is a huge fan of the hit song, he said in his last letter: “I only listen to slow jams and ESPN… Oh, and if you haven’t heard the new song by Eric Benet, ‘Sometimes I Cry,’ please stop what you’re doing and check it out.”

The “On Fire” artist also added: “It’s the best song I’ve heard since Maxwell’s ‘Woman’s Worth.’ It’s for grown folk. I actually listen to the radio all day waiting for that song.”

Eric Benét was really impressed by Wayne’s kind words and showed his appreciation in return: “That was dope. It’s a huge compliment.” Benét told Billboard, “He’s sitting somewhere where he is contemplating on life, so, to be drawn to my song while he’s going through those things, it means even more. To me it means maturity.”

The clip which is reminiscent of Micheal Jackson’s “Thriller” and “Bad” where the singer can be seen with a group of young/old people from a random neighborhood breaking down into a very sophisticated dance routine in the middle of the streets.

The “Yeah 3X” video which is very colorful has the crews well dressed in tank tops, suspenders and peach jacket and they performed a well choreographed routine – doing impressive midair twirls and jumping several feet above the ground.

The track is a smooth ballad with a mixture of European dance and talks about two wealthy guys having fun in a club looking for fun but ends up falling on a chick who is searching for something a bit more serious.

The boring track was produced by Usher’s younger brother JLack and we have no idea if it is a leftover or something that can potentially end up on the business mogul’s upcoming CD.

As I stated above – there is nothing spectacular about the song – even Usher’s vocals sound flat.

Alicia Keys Baby: Keys Gives Birth To Son Egypt Daoud Dean – Singer Alicia Keys and her husband, producer/rapper Swizz Beatz, announced the birth of their son, on Friday.

A representative from Keys said she gave birth on Thursday night in New York. The couple has decided to call their new born Egypt Daoud Dean.

This is the first child star for the 29-year-old R&B music star and fourth one for Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean. The pair got married on July 31.

Swizz Beatz, 32, took time to post on Friday via Twitter: “I’m so thankful for everything I been blessed with in my life wowwwwww!”

Singer Mary J. Blige, also used Twitter to congratulate the couple by saying: “I’m So excited 2 Congratulate my brother @ therealswizzz and @Alicia keys on there New, baby, boy!!!!!!!”.

Starshell SuperLuva Video – Starshell whose real name is LaNeah Menzies has premiered a music video for her song called “SuperLuva” which was produced by Fernando Garibay.

The 21 year old singer/songwriter who penned Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown”, “I Can See in Color” and “Closer” for Mary J. Blige is also signed to the queen of hip hop soul’s label Matriarch Records.

The colorful clip which was inspired by the hit teen movie ‘Weird Science,’ where a geek uses his computer to create the perfect woman. Starshell explained the concept of her 80′s inspired clip by saying:

“The concept of the video came from the idea of creating your perfect mate or ‘Superluva.The lead stud in my video created his perfect woman. I come to him and take him into my world, where I can be the sexy homegirl, the fun party girl, the super hero magical sexy woman of your dreams and the diva.”

Beyonce New Single Out In 3 Weeks – Beyonce looks set to be releasing her new single soon, and those working with the singer seem to be excited about her latest piece of work, and are speaking very highly in anticipation for its release. A tweet by producer Los Da Mystro, who had his hand on Beyonce’s hit single “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”, lets out that the public can expect the song to hit the airwaves soon.

Diddy shared the concept of the music video with MTV News saying:

“The concept of the song is about when you love somebody so much that you forget about yourself.You love them more than you love yourself. [The video] is really about me being in a relationship with a young lady and you’re constantly loving this person,” he continued. “And hoping that this day comes where they change and they love you back.”

After premiering a colorful clip for “Only Girl (In The World),” she has started to shoot the video for “What’s My Name,” which is a duet with her former lover Drake.

Few pictures of the shoot have surfaced where the singer can be seen in the streets of New York with her flaming red hair and wearing different sexy see-through outfits.

The diva was spotted in a pair of stockings, mini shorts and a striped jacket over a black tank top which she eventually traded for a skin tone bustier that is almost invisible.

In this video taken by INF Daily of the music video shoot the 22 year artist can be seen walking in the rain which is not ideal for the shoot, and taking the umbrella ela ela from the hands of her bodyguard before whispering “stalkers” at the camera man.

Leona Lewis I Know Who I Am: New Song From Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls – The very talented Leona Lewis, has a new song titled “I Know Who I Am” from Tyler Perry’s new film ‘For Colored Girls’ soundtrack, that surfaced online this past weekend. “I Know Who I Am” sees Leona sublime voice mix with a gospel choir through uplifting lyrics.

‘I Know Who I Am’ is pretty decent, but not extraordinary. It probably fits the thematic of the movie. Janet Jackson has one of the leading roles in For Colored Girls.

Lewis is currently working on her third studio album, that will be released sometime in 2011. Ne-Yo, Dallas Austin and Ryan Tedder are expected to work on the project.

Real life is all about managing reality with dreams, which is what most of us do on a daily basis anyway. Do what you have to do now, positioning yourself to do what you want to do later in life. The concept is simple. The execution, however, is what is difficult to conquer. I respect people who dedicate their lives into making their dreams spawn into the physical. It takes guts, but often times the success stories hit home more because they’re so rare. For most, it traces back to the balancing act of everyday life and “what could be.”

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon this artist – Chance Fischer out of New York, by way of Richmond, Virginia – thanks to the request of a friend. Even before hearing his music, Fisch had an interesting back story to him. He was raised on the West End of Richmond (not exactly the safest part), but would be entering his senior year at Cornell University in Hotel Administration come this fall. I’m always down to hear new music from back home, but I was praying this wasn’t corny at the same time. Fears eliminated.

Turns out, I liked what I heard in the three songs that were played to me. They represented stories of confidence, soul-searching, college life and the constraints of reality at times as mounting responsibilities present themselves more than opportunities. The first leak, “The Intermission,” is the world’s first introduction to Chance. Backed my a slow, soulful instrumental, the Ivy Leauger’s first showing is an aggressive one.
